We have shipped one of our most anticipated features: the analytics dashboard. Starting today, every Hangar.Media customer can track screen uptime, content playback metrics, and engagement data from a single, unified view. No add-ons, no premium tier, no additional cost.
Why Analytics Matters for Signage
Digital signage has historically operated in a measurement blind spot. You publish content to a screen and trust that it plays — but you have no data on uptime, no visibility into which content actually displayed, and no way to connect signage activity to business outcomes. The analytics dashboard changes that.
Whether you manage 3 screens or 300, understanding what is happening across your signage network is fundamental to making informed decisions about content, hardware, and investment.
You cannot improve what you do not measure. The analytics dashboard gives you the data you need to move signage decisions from gut feeling to evidence.
What You Can Track
The dashboard provides three categories of analytics, each addressing a different operational need:
Screen Uptime and Health
The uptime view shows you the operational status of every screen in your network at a glance. For each screen, you can see:
- Current status: Online, offline, or in an error state
- Uptime percentage: Over the last 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days, or a custom date range
- Downtime log: A timestamped record of every connectivity interruption, including duration and probable cause
- Hardware metrics: CPU temperature, memory usage, and storage capacity on supported player devices
Uptime data is collected every 60 seconds via the player's heartbeat signal. If a player misses three consecutive heartbeats, it is flagged as offline and the downtime clock starts. When connectivity resumes, the player backfills any missing telemetry data from its local cache.
Content Playback Metrics
The content view shows you what actually played on your screens — not just what was scheduled, but what was delivered to the display:
- Play count: How many times each piece of content was displayed across all screens, or per individual screen
- Total playback time: The aggregate duration each piece of content has been on-screen
- Completion rate: For video content, the percentage of plays where the video reached completion versus being interrupted by a playlist transition
- Content heatmap: A visual breakdown of which content played during each hour of the day, helping you verify that scheduling rules are working as intended
This data is invaluable for content strategy. You can identify which content gets the most screen time, verify that scheduling rules are executing correctly, and spot anomalies like a playlist stuck on a single item.
Engagement Data
For screens equipped with supported sensors or interactive capabilities, the dashboard also surfaces engagement data:
- Touch interactions: For touchscreen displays, tracking which content items receive the most taps, swipes, and interactions
- QR code scans: For content that includes QR codes, tracking scan rates per content item and per screen
- Dwell time: On supported hardware, anonymised data on how long viewers remain in front of the screen
Dashboard Walkthrough
The analytics dashboard is accessed through the main navigation in your Hangar.Media account. The overview page shows a network-level summary: total screens, aggregate uptime, total content plays in the selected period, and any screens currently in an alert state.
From the overview, you can drill down into individual screens, specific content items, or screen groups. Every view supports date range filtering and comparison — view this week's data alongside last week's to identify trends.
The dashboard is designed for speed. All analytics views load within two seconds, even for large deployments, thanks to a pre-aggregated data pipeline that processes raw telemetry into queryable summaries every five minutes.
Export and Reporting
All analytics data can be exported for offline analysis or reporting:
- CSV export: Raw data tables for import into spreadsheets or business intelligence tools
- PDF reports: Formatted summary reports suitable for stakeholder presentations, including charts and key metrics
- Scheduled reports: Configure automatic report generation and delivery to email on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis
The analytics dashboard is live now for all customers on all plans. Log in to your dashboard and navigate to the Analytics section to explore your data. Historical data is available from the date your screens first connected — we have been collecting telemetry from day one in anticipation of this feature.
What Is Next
This initial release is the foundation. In the coming months, we will be adding A/B testing capabilities (compare content performance across matched screen groups), audience analytics (anonymised demographic and attention data from optical sensors), and API access to analytics data for integration with your existing business intelligence tools.
